Discussion: Gift of Spiritual Healing

I discovered it was common to receive additional gifts with a healing.  Indeed, I began my artist life one month after the healing.  When I paint, I often have a feeling Jesus is watching me over my shoulder.  I wanted to do something to express my gratitude, so it seemed fitting to do so with my painting.  I prayed for inspiration and got the idea to paint "Before" and “After” to show how I was both before, and after, my healing.
When I entered "Before" in a show, it was rejected.  The juror said, "This looks like some kind of abuse."
Well, yes, but there was more to the story.  I had to tell a more complete story and did more paintings which led me to write the words.  I do wonder how people will receive my story.   (There are from 730 to 4300 religions worldwide.)

"Before" renamed to “Realization, Acknowledgement"

“After” renamed to "Life"

Discussion: Leave it Alone

I was five, I couldn't fall asleep and my mother complained about my whining.  He came to my bedside and started beating me.  The reason I remember this when there are other things I can't recall, is that this time, I got the better of him. Every night I insisted my mother tuck me in very tight.  So every time his hand came down to hit me, I was able to move away from his hand and I watched his hand  literally bounce off the bed.  It was a game I was winning until I saw how upset my mother was and realized that I better start screaming.  I did and he stopped.  The demons in the painting were what I would see in my imagination, because I was always so scared.

Discussion: Peace

When I was 16, I saw a beautiful photo in a magazine and saved it.  The peacefulness portrayed in the original photo captivated me.  I tried to capture the feeling in paint with "Peace Wish," "Peace 2" and "Like the Trees."    I also repeated this imagery in the top portion of "Life."  The Bible reading for Like the Trees: Psalm 1: "He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  Whatever he does prospers."

The title of this painting was from Proverbs 5:21-23 "The Lord sees everything you do.   Wherever you go, He is watching."  Also: Genesis 28:15  "Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go"

Wherever you go, He is watching"

Discussion Abortion

In 1990 I was at an artist’s workshop when a conversation about abortion was taking place.  I was painting an abstract work without any plan for a recognizable image, but when it was finished I realized that I had created what looked like an embryo.  I realized that my painting looked like a picture of a Human Embryo at 6 ½ weeks old. (from p. 206 of WBE, Lennart Nilsson, Life Magazine)  On that day instead of joining in the conversation, I prayed; this is what I painted:

From Abstracts: Many paintings were named from Bible phrases, found in the same way as described in "911 Series." Stronger Than Strength is one of my favorites.  Here is the Bible Verse:  1 Corinthians 1: "For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength."

Stronger Than Strength

In conclusion, each painting has a story inside the story. This is enough for now.
